The Promoters behind the dancefloors
Disco Electronica is one of the most established tech-house and techno parties in Manchester right now, but how did you guys start out?
Me and my DJ partner in OD Muzique, Sean McCleary, were always down at Sankeys and were kind of the faces of Manchester. We started putting on smaller parties, then Sankeys asked us to host the bar and soon after we had the main room. Knowing everybody definitely helped get the word out.
What promotions have influenced you the most?
I'm going to say the obvious ones like DC10 for Circo Loco and Cocoon at Amnesia. When those two go right, they're magical. Musically, they're exactly what we aspire to.
What's the most effective way to promote?
We have a few rooms at Sankeys so a key thing is inviting up-and-coming promoters to host other rooms. They bring their crowd, help out with the promotion and build up a network.
How would you sum up the music policy at Disco Electronica?
Right now, it's tech-house and techno, with deep house in the bar. But it's just all about decent electronic music really. We think we've nailed things musically, now, and we've got a great regular crowd. We've got the same faces that come month in, month out.
What's the hardest thing you have to deal with?
Uncertainty. Even if you're consistently strong, it's still quite nerve wracking month by month. You stand to lose a lot of money and you're only as good as your last event.
What have you got planned for 2010?
We've got DJ Sneak, Marco Carola, Reboot, Joris Voorn live, Nic Fanciulli and Mark Broom. And that's just the first six months.
Disco Electronica is monthly at Sankeys on the third Saturday of the month.
